General Emergencies

Dental emergencies can happen at the worst possible time and can range broadly from inflammation, swelling and bleeding, to major trauma. Our dental team is always ready to assist you with whatever dental emergency you may be experiencing. With dedicated emergency appointments available daily, we are ready to help you feel better faster.

Knocked Out Tooth

If you have taken a blow to the face and had a tooth knocked out, the first and most important thing you should do is remain calm. Take some deep breaths. Locate the tooth and gently pick it up by the crown of the tooth, the part that is normally visible, not the root of the tooth, the part normally hidden under your gums. Gently rise it off with saliva or milk and then keep it immersed in either or held in your mouth by popping it against your cheek. If you are feeling up to it, try to very gently re insert it back into the socket in your mouth. However, don’t worry if you can’t. Just come in and see us immediately and we will get you out of pain and assess the next steps.

Toothache

Toothache can arise from a vast variety of dental issues and the actual pain experienced can also range broadly. You might be experiencing only a dull pain which is relatively constant, or throbbing pain which may extend into your jawbone. It may only hurt when biting down on something as a sharp stabbing pain, or when you drink something cold. Whatever the reason, it is important to come and see us as soon as possible. Toothaches always have one thing in common. They are a symptom, usually the first, of an underlying dental problem, which if left untreated, will become worse.

Chipped Tooth

Despite your teeth being incredibly strong, with the enamel being one of the hardest parts in the human body, chipping a tooth is almost inevitable in life. It can happen for many reasons, including a cavity weakening the structure from the inside, a restoration (filling) that has worn down or even just eating or biting into something hard, for example, an unpitted date in your meal. With tooth chips that range from minor to serve, possibly fracturing the tooth, we recommend you come and see us immediately to prevent further damage.

Bitten Lip, Tongue or Cheek

Biting your cheek, tongue or even lip can really hurt and ruin a meal, however, we can pretty much bet you 1000 Vietnamese Dong that we have all done it. It can be simply due to nervousness or stress, or possibly something more severe such as a misalignment of your teeth. Whether it is a once off bite that is bleeding significantly, or hurts significantly, or it is regularly occurring, we can assist you to help reduce the pain and occurrences.

Abscess

A tooth abscess can be incredibly painful and can lead to serious and possibly life-threatening complications if left untreated. Abscesses can form in different regions of the tooth such as at the tip of the root, known as periapical, or along the gums, known as periodontal. If you are experiencing severe tooth pain then you may have a tooth abscess and you should come in and see us immediately. Our gentle and experienced team will drain any abscess and then determine the next steps to try and save the tooth where possible.

Lost Filling or Crown

A lost filling or crown can certainly be an unexpected or startling experience. In most cases, however, it is relatively safe as far as dental emergencies go. You may experience discomfort on the area and increased sensitivity to air pressure and temperature changes, like hot and cold foods or beverages. Rest assured, we can replace your lost filling or dental crown after examining the area to help ensure it won’t happen again.
